Top Tech: Dev and I.T. Websites (by PCMAG.com)

Not for beginners, these are the sites that cater to the software development community and information technology workers.

Devx
Devx is chock-full of resources for software and Web developers of all stripes. Get handy tips from the site's expert articles, learn new programming languages, and get all next-gen with the new Semantic Web Zone section.

The Register
If your sense of humor runs along the lines of bits, bytes, and Monty Python, then U.K.-based The Register.com may be just the thing to tickle your funny bone. The site offers news, reviews, and analysis of all things IT-related, but tends to do so with its tongue firmly in its cheek.

SourceForge.net
SourceForge.net claims to be "the world's largest open-source software development Web site," and with more than 150,000 registered projects, we don't think it's bluffing. You'll find popular downloads such as Azureus and The GIMP alongside much smaller releases in various stages of completion, and all of it is reviewable and collaborative.

W3 Schools
So you want to be a Web developer? Or a better Web developer? Head to W3 Schools, where you'll find loads of free training tools, tutorials, and references for all levels of developers. Beginners can start by learning simple HTML, but there are also materials for .NET, XML, CSS, browser and server scripting, Flash, PHP, and on and on. It's all free, with quizzes and certification exams to test your knowledge when your studies are complete. The site also does Web page validation for checking and troubleshooting your work.
